Yoga Therapy + Mindfulness for Addictions CPD Training — 4 day training from 29th November — 2nd December 2018

Yoga is a remarkable practice that builds self-awareness, strength, clarity of mind, and resilience. By clearly understanding how yoga can promote psychological and physical changes, we can tailor practices to support the addicted mind and help prevent relapse.
The Minded Addiction Recovery Kit (MARK) training combines uses an integrative yogic-based approach that explores body, breath and mind to empower the individual with the tools to regulate their nervous system.
This training enables practitioners to work from a complete mind-and-body perspective and firmly setting the foundation for successful engagement with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
What you will get from this training
Students learn how to use integrative yogic-based approaches to addictions that will allow you to work with clients privately, in clinics, and in group settings.

You will gain:

Knowledge of how to teach a four-week course that has been developed over years of working with yoga and relaxation practices in addiction and recovery settings
An understanding of how to work with addictions and recovery from a yogic and mindfulness perspective with individual clients and groups
A certificate of attendance and CPD points from the Minded Institute and Yoga Alliance USA and Yoga ls.Alliance Professionals.
How is the course structured?

The training has a three-tiered approach—physiology, psychology, and behaviour—so as to greatly enhance the likelihood of preventing relapse and overcoming addictions.
This training imparts knowledge on:
Why we become addicted to substances and behavioral patterns
Which underlying neurological and psychological tendencies make people more vulnerable to addiction
How different substances impact the physiological systems of the body
What happens in the brain when we practice yoga and mindfulness and how this knowledge can be applied to people struggling with substance abuse
Specific yoga practices for addiction and recovery
How the yogic perspective can replace the addict worldview
Exploration of the teachings of Yogi Bhajan and ‘keeping up spirit’ in the face of adversity
What mindfulness is and how we can teach people to be with the mind
How yoga and mindfulness can be integrated into a CBT framework for working with addictions
How to liaise with the medical community and be part of a clinical team
How to promote feelings of safety in class and in the world
What kinds of long-term goals and practices can be created for helping the addict to remain substance free.
About the Facilitator — Shaura Hall — The Yogologist
Shaura Hall is an accredited Yoga Therapist C-IAYT, and creator of the Yoga Therapy for Addictions Continuing Professional Development training with the Minded Institute.
As a certified Senior Yoga Teacher and Teacher Trainer with Yoga Alliance Professionals, Shaura teaches and works with Hatha, Kundalini, and Yin Yoga, as well as mindfulness, meditation and Yoga Nidra practices.
Her Pilamaya Yoga 220 Hour Teacher Training course offers students comprehensive understanding of the overall health benefits of yoga.
Shaura has been working to deliver yoga and relaxation in the recovery field since 2009. During her 500 Hour Professional Certificate In Yoga Therapy training, Shaura studied the neurobiology of mental health, and this greatly influenced her understanding of addiction as both a physiological and a psychological process, giving her the ability work with those experiencing it with efficacy and compassion.
Shaura now teaches yoga for addiction and energetic sciences as a Senior Lecturer on this Minded Institute training programme.
Shaura has a wealth of experience in addictions. As well as being a Yoga Therapist for Mental Health, she is a trained Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention facilitator and an Addictions Recovery Coach.
She is continuing her development in this field by training for a certificate in Supervision to offer specialist support to therapists who work with the addicted mind, and is forging social enterprise projects to support people in recovery.
But Shaura also has a personal understanding how yoga can greatly assist in recovery. After years of her own addiction, Shaura became relapse-free in 2002. Yoga practice was integral to her recovery and offered a deep spiritual transformation that led to her development into becoming a yoga teacher and therapist.
Her strong therapeutic background led to Shaura’s passion for a robust physiological and psychological understanding of the human body, to become a mind-and-body practitioner who can support others from a whole-person perspective.
To this end, Shaura is currently working towards a BSc (Hons) in the Health Sciences, and shares scientific wisdom in all of the yoga and mind-and-body programmes she offers.
It is in this realm of thought that The Yogologist, and Yogologie, continue to grow.
