The Scientists are legends. Formed as straight up punk rock band in late 70s Australia, they soon relocated to London and transformed into a sprawling, feral swamp/punk/blues beast fit to rub shoulders with the Gun Club/Cramps/Birthday Party, etc. Huge influences on the likes of Mudhoney (who asked them to play their All Tomorrow’s Parties fest), and on the Gunk Punk scene of the 1990s.
Not seen in Scotland since touring with Siouxsie & The Banshees in 1984 or 85, and only occasionally seen at all since then. The last time I saw them was 12 years ago at the Spitz. Their rare live appearances are a thing to behold. Don’t believe me? Talk to the Barman i94bar.com/gigs/scientists-geelong
