A Preston based psychedelic rock band whose sound incorporates elements of Krautrock, post-punk and northern soul, The Common Cold is a new venture by two former members of early 90s underground noise legends Dandelion Adventure, vocalist Mark Wareing and guitarist Ajay Saggar (also of King Champion Sounds). The line-up is completed by bassist Jack Harkins and double drummers Dave Chambers (ex Cornershop) and Roland 'Scrub' Jones (ex Big Red Bus).
The Common Cold's debut LP 'Shut Up! Yo Liberals!' is released on May 4th on Action Records. "A stunning debut that sees the band drink from the same magical musical fountain as The Fall, Kaleidoscope, Neu! and Quicksilver Messenger Service and yet retain their own st...yle"- John Robb, Louder Than War.
Support comes from Glasgow's brilliant Normal Service:.
They sound like a school orchestra from a lost continent, exporting back to mainland Europe their interpretation of an undiscovered early '80s Cherry Red outtake. Their top tune, 'Raljex' bubbles along in the same jaunty fashion as a floor filler from Mr Scruff's repertoire whilst at the same time sounding like a studiously Xeroxed version of Scritti Politti's, Skank Bloc Bologna, go figure?! They're hip to the lip and contain key figures from seminal jerky/indie pop groups of yore, namely Lung Leg, The Yummy Fur and Gag. Expect an explosion of angularity, melody and wobbly pop music as this tag-team of two boys and two girls whack you a-wonk from your head down to your toes!
