The One Ensemble will perform ‘Saint Seven’ — a 45-minute piece of music that is utterly original and daringly unique. Using cello, guitar, bass clarinets, percussion and voices, they create a bold and striking music somewhere between folk, experimental and classical. It is an inventive, bold and theatrical piece that moves from stark minimalism to fullbodied and full-throated energy. The piece ends as it begins, having gone through a journey that is by turns challenging, playful, dynamic and meditative, whilst remaining accessible, engaging and absorbing throughout.
“Dazzling interplay… The One Ensemble goes from strength to strength” The Wire

— Nerea Bello’s wonderful singing celebrates the true female voice and the deep raw physicality of love, birth and death…” Joyce Macmillan.
Nerea is a Basque singer based in Glasgow. She works as solo artist (VOTIVE, Sound of Yell album launch) and in collaboration (Hanna Tuulikki, Daniel Padden, Taiko to Txalaparta). Her theatre work earned her a nomination for best composition and use of music for the Critics’ Awards in Theatre in Scotland. She has been a member of many bands, the latest being experimental quartet Tattie Toes.
Nerea is drawn to old ways of singing. Raw and unadulterated voices, fearless of expressing vulnerability or emotion. For this short set, she will be unearthing old voices with her experimental style. Nerea is also a txalaparta player and will be looking at some Basque rhythms with the help of percussion player Shane Connolly.
