Red Bull Music Academy announces a new multi-faceted, cross-platform art installation by the ever-dynamic Scottish electronic artist Lanark Artefax. Exhibiting in his hometown of Glasgow for the first time, the four-day show, entitled “The Absent Material Gateway”, will culminate in a live performance from Lanark himself.
Tipped by the likes of Bjork and Aphex Twin for his musical productions, Lanark Artefax's output inhabits a surreal space, sitting between vivid fabrication and blurry reality. Based around a mysterious and shadowy organisation of the same name, ‘The Absent Material Gateway' is described by Lanark himself as an ‘immersive, multi-platform, bibliographical and transhistorical’ installation, which includes this custom-built website l-a-n-a-r-k.net/.
Taking place at The Glue Factory, the installation sees Lanark work alongside Glasgow-based writer Maria Sledmere and designer Martins Daknis. Sledmere co-edits post-internet poetry zine SPAM while also writing on topics such as new materialism, dark ecology and metamodernism. Daknis, whose previous credits include working with Numbers signee SOPHIE, seeks to create ‘new experiential universes’ through his work — a process that will no doubt be applied to this ambitious installation. Participants will experience the installation alone, with a total of just 50 spaces across four days. Tickets will be allocated through the sign up site here.
On Sunday 19th November the installation will close with a live performance, masterminded in collaboration with LuckyMe Studio’s production designer Shaun Murphy, who has previously worked with the likes of Hudson Mohawke, Optimo, Dopplereffekt and Kelela. The finale will see content from the installation form one element to a multi-media performance, following the live show’s debut at Poland’s Unsound festival.
Continuing Red Bull Music Academy’s history of supporting and musicians and creatives of various disciplines, ‘The Absent Material Gateway’ is open to ticket holders from Thursday 16th November to Saturday 18th November with the ticketed live show taking place on Sunday 19th November.
