Sound of Yell / Ilk / Aby Vulliamy
Three contrasting yet sympathetic acts, incorporating a remarkable range of instruments and musical styles; large ensemble cinematic avant folk, immersive taiko drum led instrumentals and a piano based songwriter joined by brass and double bass. Much collaborative interaction between groups can be expected.
Stevie Jones’ fingerstyle acoustic guitar leads Sound of Yell, a Chemikal Underground signed collective. A wealth of idiosyncratic Glasgow based musicians perform his delicate arrangements for strings, woodwind, vocals and percussion plus unique sounds such as musical saw, chimes & hurdy gurdy. Sound of Yell will feature members of Trembling Bells, Muscles of Joy and The One Ensemble among many others.
Ilk are ‘a band with taiko at it’s heart’. With Georgie McGeown and Alison Roe’s taiko rhythms melding with violin and guitars, Ilk are as unique as they are mesmerizing, subtle yet powerful. Also featuring Jer Reid (Glasgow Improviser’s Orchestra, Sumshapes), Ali Begbie (Sumshapes) and Rafe Fitzpatrick (Alasdair Roberts & Friends, Sound of Yell).
Aby Vulliamy is a music therapist, improviser and highly sought after collaborator who plays piano, viola and sings under her own name and as Motherese. She also regularly performs with National Jazz Trio, Switzerland’s Orchestre Puissant Marcel Duchamp, Bill Wells & Aidan Moffat and Matthew Bourne. The set will comprise of material from her forthcoming album Spin Cycle, a collection of songs and compositions about motherhood. Aby will be joined by George Murray (trombone) and Stevie Jones (double bass).
