The Dream Lab is a collaborative digital arts production studio ran by The Dream Machine. It is a space for anyone from any background to grasp the tools of empowerment, creativity and expression.
The Dream Lab is proud to host the first in many music technology workshops to come. We are reclaiming the future by giving you the tools to create it.
We begin with an 8 week course in how to create a live DJ set with Ableton digital audio workstation. It is a beginners crash course in how to navigate around Ableton, mix tracks and samples, different ways to record mixes, how to mix recorded music with live instruments and interactions and by the end of the 8 week program, participants will be able to understand their way around Ableton, how to record a mix and how to play a basic live set.
The next course will look at producing a track with Ableton. This beginners course will introduce all the necessary elements for producing music and will act as a good stepping stone towards producing your own music.
This is not a drop in service. It is expected of you to turn up to the full 8 weeks. If you take a limited space at the beginning then decide later you cannot or don't want to attend, the space is then lost to someone else. So we ask for a commitment to the full 8 weeks.
TICKETS — Available @ thefutureisours.brownpapertickets.com/
We have a committment to encouraging more identifying women, non binary and trans people into digital music production and DJing. That is why half the tickets are reserved for non males to try ensure equal opportunities and to make the workshops more diverse and fun for us all. All workshops are fully wheelchair accessible and we are keen to cater for any extra physical or learning requirements anyone may have. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss any personal support requirements we can help with. We are keen to find out what barriers stop might still stop you from attending. If you have any suggestions on things we could do better to help bring those barriers down, we beg you to let us know any time.
PRICING — We are not funded by anyone! The Dream Lab has to generate its own funds to survive hence why we have to ask for a contribution. We are however committed to a Pay What You Decide model to keep everything we do accessible to as many people as possible.
To run this 8 week course it will cost us £850 in wages, venue hire and basic materials. This does not include our core costs that cover equipment, development, office rental, insurance and much more which come to around £65,000 annually. This is why we ask for a minimum contribution of £2 per workshop but would hope if you have the means to be more generous, you will be to cover costs for those with less. We are a community interest company meaning all income is reinvested so the more we raise, the more we can put on. You are also welcome to pay what you can up front and top up any week you can. Its all a nice direct community feedback loop really and we are excited to help pioneer it.
