Kicking & Screening is a new monthly series of film screenings and discussions at The Art School focusing on the portrayal of mental health issues, both explicit and implicit, in mainstream cinema.
With an aim to creating an atmosphere in which to openly and sensitively discuss mental illness and its various (mis)representations, screenings will be followed by informal conversation led by guest artists and designers who confront these issues within their practices.
THIS MONTH: David Fincher’s 2014 adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s bestseller GONE GIRL, with discussion initiated by Juliette Fitzgerald Duffy and Sgàire Wood.
While it is important and necessary to initiate safe, non-judgmental conversation about mental health and wellbeing, we are not mental health professionals and discussions will primarily centre around the films and the issues they raise.
Should anyone be affected by anything raised at Kicking & Screening, appropriate charities and organisations who can offer help, support and advice will be signposted!
Content Warning: mentions of sexual assault/rape, excess blood, mentions of suicide/self harm, intimate partner violence
The Art School is fully wheelchair accessible and films will be subtitled.
