Glasgow University Union (GUU)
32 University Avenue, G12 8LX Glasgow, United Kingdom
After the passing of Charles Kennedy in 2015 the Glasgow University Union came together to celebrate the life of one of our most esteemed members by holding a debate and dinner in his memory. This debate featured prominent names from the world of British politics including the former Chancellor of the Exchequer the Right Honourable Alistair Darling, Alastair Campbell, and was chaired by former leader of the Liberal Democrats the Right Honourable Menzies Campbell.
This event was a great success and a fitting tribute to Charles’ legacy within the Glasgow University Union, which comprised of not only being President but also by winning the observer mace and being instrumental in establishing the World University Debating Championships, which the Glasgow University Union has won five times since.
The Glasgow University Union wishes to replicate this success again to honour one of our most prominent members and to debate the pressing issues of the day in the finest Glasgow tradition. The motion will be centred around the ever-contentious issue of Brexit, not only making it befitting to the interesting times we find ourselves in but also close to Charles’ heart.
Tickets for the dinner and debate will be available next week via Eventbrite. Dress code: Black tie.
Tickets for the gallery will be released in September to allow new members of the Union to attend once they have settled in after Freshers' Week.
We will be releasing the list of speakers and judges over the next couple of weeks to build up excitement for what we are sure will be another great evening.
